Perseverance Rover Heading For Mars
The search for signs of ancient life on Mars continues...
Launched on July 30, 2020, the Perseverance Rover is scheduled to arrive on Feb. 18, 2021.
Equipped with a drill, it will collect rock and soil samples.
But unlike previous missions, it will store the samples in tubes that will be retrieved on later missions.
It's also an opportunity to test out new technologies. Perseverance will have a helicopter, "Ingenuity," strapped to its belly.
At some point, they will launch it above the red planet floor to map and seek out new destinations. It's just one of many new technologies to be tested.
Perseverance's Landing Destination - Jezero Crater
It has an in-flow channel and an out-flow channel, so this ancient crater was once full of water.
(You grab a line, I'll grab a pole, meet you down at the crawdad hole)
An ancient lake with a beautifully preserved delta seems likely.
If there is evidence of ancient microbial life on Mars, this should be a hot spot to find it!
