The Cicada Storm of 2024

These Periodical Cicadas only emerge every thirteen and seventeen years, so I'm paying attention. 

On smaller trees, you can better hear their individual songs/calls 

Tree trunks are lined with beady red eyes

Shells drop to the ground in mounds
