A Small Patch of Sky
From a small backyard
from a small wooden deck
just above me,
a small patch of sky
fertile space for a starry eye...
Reclining on a lounger,
my Captain's chair
"Screen on," I declare
Stars will be extra bright on this nearly moonless night.
Depending on the season, sometimes the planets will shine like stars, sometimes even brighter.
Shooting stars always leave me wishing for still one more. One time I saw one speeding like a fireball just above the tree line.
And
Once I saw the sun disappear,
eclipsed right here, in 2017.
