An Infinity Of Infinities
To visualize with scale
If our Solar System were the size of a quarter(coin), then the observable universe would be roughly the size of the Continental United States.
What's more, our universe is still expanding.
Cosmic Inflation, a theory proposed by Physicist Alan Guth in the early 1980''s, suggests that after the Big Bang, the early universe went through rapid expansions from an infinitely small point to the largest scale, our vast universe that's teeming with hundreds of billions, possibly trillions of galaxies!
And it bears repeating that our universe is still expanding.
Now hold on tight, for now we know, its expansion is accelerating!
It just might be that our universe is infinite!
Now wrap your mind around this,
The Laws of Probability suggest that all possible arrangements of particles, including those that make up you and me, could eventually repeat.
Shazam!
This is rooted in concepts of Cosmology and Quantum Mechanics Physics. Just think of the implications! And we're just talking about this one universe alone!
Is your skullcap tingling yet?
Stay with me,
because Guth's Inflation model may not stop there. His insights and vision have inspired other physicists to develop, dare I say it, something still more expansive, mind-blowingly expansive. "Eternal Inflation! "
Keeping it simple, it suggests the possibility of new universes being infinitely created. I almost wet my pants the first time I learned this.
So once more,
This one universe alone, already unimaginably vast, might be infinite.
Particle arrangements of you and me repeating in our own universe?
Now ponder the possibility of universes being endlessly created. Call it a Multiverse. A Multiverse that includes our own universe...
An infinity of infinities! Let me check my pants!
Could it be that "Eternal Inflation" suggests an infinite mind of God, or One ultimate source?
______
So the next time you gaze up at the stars, ponder this: perhaps you are peering out into infinity...
